What Causes Severe Pain In The Joints?

My wife, 64 has terrible aching pains in all her joints. She is a week out from seeing a neurologist. One doc suggested we drive to the Mayo ER which is 250 miles away. She cannot get up from a sitting position and has no upper body strength. It looks like a fibromyalgia commercial. Suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, It may be due to osteoarthritis.

For further assessment, I would suggest you do rheumatoid factor, anti-ANA, anti-CCP, uric acid and X-Ray of affected joints after orthopedician consultation.

Till then you can take tablet acetaminophen. Apply diclofenac gel with heating pads. Use support while walking.

Avoid forward bending and squatting position.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
