Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have in the last 3 days, had excruciating knee pain...no doubt arthritis. I am 71 years old. My doctor prescribed Naproxin 500 mg twice daily. Will that kick the pain? My knee hurts only at night when I lie down. I have gotten less than 2 hours of sleep per the last 3 nights. Is that a strong enough pain med for this?
Naproxen is one of the commonest over the counter pain killer and has very good results without any adverse effect on heart or liver. You can also take Ibuprofen if Naproxen is not enough. Also try warm compresses, take more rest and use a knee support while walking. If Naproxen and Ibuprofen are not able to relieve your pain, then there are prescription medicines that reduce pain. I would recommend consulting with your doctor regarding the need for these medicines. Hope this answers your question. Thank you.
