What Causes Severe Pain In The Laryngeal Prominence?

Hi Doctor, Last night I had a very sudden onset of a stabbing pain in and aroind my adams apple when swallowing anything. This was about 30-40 minutes after eating dinner. It s also very painful to the touch and hasn t got any better over night. I am now very worried about this and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Pain in throat is mostly because of pharyngitis or tonsillitis. Mostly this is viral and resolve itself in few days so no need to worry a lot. You just need to take more fluid, you can take some painkiller like Brufen or Paracetamol for the pain. Sometimes this may be bacteria that is if there is obvious discharge on the throat or if it drowning settle in 3 days then you can see your doctor as may need some antibiotics but that's not the case mostly.
