What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Shoulder?

I am a 55 y o overweight male. I have a deteriorating problem of severe random pain in my left shoulder that is now beginning in my right. Alleve helps, but not much anymore. Thought it was bad bursitis, but it is getting worse. Pain is excruciating for 20 or 30 seconds then subsides to normal. Certain reaching moments cause near intolerable pain. Some numbness for a few minutes afterwards as well.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
I have read and understood your concern.
The pain you describe may be caused by a number of medical conditions. Some possible causes may include: shoulder osteoarthritis, brachial plexus injury, cervical radiculopathy, tendinitis.....
Treatment options for such pains may include: different lines of pain drugs depending on pain intensity, myorelaxants, steroids shots ocassionally, physiotherapy.
I will suggest you try the following:
-Take a pain drug like aceclofenac
-A myorelaxant like miorel
-Local pain gel like voltarene gel for massage
If pain persist, you see the Doctor for examination and a shoulder x ray.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health. You may write back if you got more concerns.
Best regards
