Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 46 year old female, I have been having extreme leg cramps in bed, I begun taking potassium pills about 3 weeks ago and they are not helping. My daughter has told me I am dehydrated, but I drink all the time and urinate well. What could be going on?
I assume you have taken the tablets you mentioned after consulting a doctor, if not then I would say its not advisable to take any kind of medication for long duration without your doctor’s advice. Leg cramps can be due to number of reasons at this age like weakness, unnoticed injury, if you are in a profession where you have to stand for a long duration or increase in blood pressure and so on and to find out the exact cause its always better to pay a small visit to your doctor and get it checked.
With proper history and evaluation, your doctor will suggest you appropriate treatment option which will help to relieve the pain. Apart from this he can ask you tk undergo some tests if required. With all this and adequate rest, I believe there will be an improvement in your symptoms soon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
