Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
15 years ago I finally went to a doctor because my leg-at the very top of my thigh on the left side-was always hurting.i believe he said that it was not actually my leg but my hip.he gave me stretching exercises for the muscle that runs down the leg and as long as I do those I m ok. Of course,I gradually stopped because I would rarely experience the pain. A month ago I took a new job as a cashier and I stand for 5 to 7 hours at a time.the pain has returned with a vengeance! It is so sharp and stabbing my leg gives way and I can t move.i have done the stretching exercises for a few days but it is not helping. Is it because of the new job and how do I help it?
Pain can be due to stagnant blood flow as you continue in one posture for a long time. It happens due to dilatation of veins and decreased blood flow in limbs. As you move exercise it decreases as you say by stretching which increases the blood flow.
I advise you to stand move after few hours daily, try an exercise in breaks and have the habit of a morning walk.
If symptoms persist consult a physician for the possibility of varicose veins, neuropathy or other things.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
