What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Back?

I have been experiencing severe lower back pain this week. Just came on recently. Never felt this way before. It is lower back and to the right side. When I sit or stand it feels like lighting struck me. Sudden jolts when you least expect it. Same when I come up or go down the stairs. Also if I turn my body left or right. What is happening to me?
