What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Ribs?

Yes, I need to know what would cause an extreme pain on the lower left side of ribs? He has had this before, but never to this degree and consistency. He has agreed to go to the doctor and he never goes, so this has got to be miserable. What can I do to help? Thank you for your time.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain in lower side of ribs can occur due to various causes.
Pain on lower side of rib can be due to splenomegaly (on left side), hepatomegaly (on right side), pleural pain, musculoskeletal pain, bone related pain to name a few.
I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and relevant investigations.
A X-ray chest may be required as first line investigation for diagnosis and thus management.

Thanks and take care
