What Causes Severe Pain In The Neck On The Right Side?

My wife is a 48 year old female with severe pain that runs from her neck and down the right side of her back. She is also experiencing numbness in her right arm, which is the same side as her neck and back pain. She had a CT scan done this evening and the doctor said she has something between c5 and c6 that sounded like intra or inter but not exactly sure what it was. Could you please help us figure this out. Thanks,John
