What Causes Severe Pain In The Scrotum Despite Taking Doxycycline?

My brother was diagnosed with a scrotum mass and bladder mass. He was prescribed doxycylne and has taken for the past 10 days. He has pain in the scrotum area and urinates very little but feels like he has to go frequently but as I said cannot or very little. Today was the last dosage for the medicine. Last night and today was the first he has experienced severe pain. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the problems your brother has been diagnosed so far.

Pain in the scrotum is due to the mass that was identified in both his scrotum and bladder. Doxycycline has helped with bacterial infection. However, we should know first the nature of the mass (please attach any lab report you have to guide you more specifically).

Anti-spasmodics should be added to doxycycline therapy (e.g. buscopan or spasmex). If you do not have any, please give ibuprofen or mephenamic acid you find over the counter.
Urine anti-septics should be also used (e.g. uva-ursi, cranberry supplements).

Another consultation with urologist is highly recommended.

Wish fast recovery.
