Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Severe tongue pain, mostly on the side but can be anywhere on the tongue. Aleve helped some for awhile but doesn t seem to help much anymore. Pain is sporadic, can come and go at any time, may last for several minutes. Has to be nerve problem but no medical consultant has been able to help,
You should consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like MRI Scan shall be done for ruling out the exact cause..
If Neuralgia is confirmed as the diagnosis then only Aleve will not help and you will be advised neurotic pain relievers like Carbamazipine, Gabapantin etc..
Hope this helps..
Regards..

What Causes Severe Pain In The Tongue?
Hi.. Thanks for the query.. Yes, it looks like nerve induced pain and if the pain is also extending to throat and ear then it can be due to Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia.. If it involves portion of face then it can be due to Trigeminal Neuralgia.. Regards..
