Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I am a 50 yr old female. I am having severe pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen. The pain is strong and hurts clear thru to my back and I am nauseous. I have had this a few other times but it went away in about half and hour and I only had pain. I have been up since 2 am and pain is not subsiding. I am currently being treated for a concussion that occurred 12/17. I have already taken three ibuprofen s less than 4 hours ago. What do you advise?
Pain in the right hypochondrium that also goes to the back and causes nausea is mostly caused by gallbladder problems like gallstones or cholecystitis.
Sometimes the pain of kidney problems also presents the same way. So besides taking painkiller and antispasmodic like Buscopan for the time, I would recommend getting an ultrasound done to see for the above problems.
Once it's known then the treatment can be directed accordingly. You can also apply heat pad for pain relief at the moment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
