What Causes Severe Pain In The Upper Abdominal Area?

Hi, my husband is having problems with stomach pains in his upper stomach, right under his rib cage. When he has these pains, he becomes short of breath at times. If he has a bowel movement, the pains subside. They sometimes last for a couple days, and. Then disappear for a couple days to a week or so. He has type 2 diabetes and is on 1000 mg of Metformin. We have been reading about gluten intolerance and it seems to go away faster if he doesn t eat bread. He has been eating a product called Davies killer bread and it doesn t happen when he eats that.
