What Causes Severe Pain In Toe With Subdural Hematoma?

I ve had a Subdural Hematoma on the great toe for about 2 months now. I had one prior on both great toes, but it grew out normal, but the left on developed another one and it seems worse. I m diabetic w/up and down numbers. I did not hit my toe. The toe is painful. The other great toe that healed Is now aching. It woke me up just now. My Ortho Dr. blows it off as a toe injury, but I m scared that it s more. Half of the great toe, with the bruised, is numb. My toe nails are cut short and not hitting in my shoes. My mother had several amputations due to diabetic complications. So, of course this is freaking me out. I don t want it to get too the point where it s too late and they have to start chopping off my toes and parts of my feet. What do you think? Am I just paranoid and unreasonable?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about having pain in the great toes,, known diabetic, Mother had multiple amputations due to diabetes, had
sub-ungal hematoma.
The pain would have due to one of the following reasons:
Diabetic neuropathy.
Low grade infection or inflammation/
Fracture of the underlying small bones.
Tendinitis and so on.
All these can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon.
X-ray, CT or MRI can exactly help to know what is going on inside so that an appropriate treatment in the form of antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medicines, any surgical procedure if needed can be undertaken as per the findings.
This will give proper cure..
Also see that diabetes is well under control.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
