Hi..
Thanks for the query..
Severe pain on right side of the jaw which even shifts and locks is indication of dislocation of the jaw joint..
It looks like there is increased laxity of the ligaments that holds the condyle of the mandible [lower jaw] in place.
Yes, you need to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and investigations like a Panoromic
x ray will help in diagnosis.
In case if there is dislocation then the surgeon can manually try to reduce the joint in its position, it can be routinely done by an oral surgeon without surgery..
Along with it you can also be advised a course of anti-inflammatory painkillers and muscle relaxants..
To tighten the ligaments you can also be advised
Physiotherapy and advise can be given to avoid excessive mouth opening and also take soft meals till the healing takes place.
Avoid taking
stress as it can cause teeth clenching and cause increase pain and discomfort.
Take sufficient rest and do cool compresses over the jaw.
Hope you get improved soon.
Take care.
