What Causes Severe Pain On The Back Of The Thighs And Knees?

my nephew has been having severe pain in the back of his thigh that moves to the back of his knee and calf. Sometimes he experiences tightness in each area. This has been going on for over a month and the doctor is treating it as muscle spasm. He can barely walk and is using a walker. He is age 45, never been sick.

Hello,

It seems he has lumbar spine nerve root entrapment symotoms. The pain is radiating in nature and so does the travel of pain in the back of thigh, knee and calf. Sometimes feet as well.

Taking up and MRI will be good as it can help us understand the soft tissue pathology.

Using lumbar brace will be good as it will help stabilize the spine and reduce the symptoms. This brace needs to be used more often to maintain spinal stability.

Also, whole exercises no use of brace. Do core stability exercises, spinal muscle strengthening exercises, hip muscle strengthening, static quadriceps, static hamstring and ankle toe movements.

This exercises will help improve muscle strength and also improve joint stability.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
