Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Pain On The Left Side Of The Head?
I am 48 Years of Age, 17 years ago I had a minor stroke, did a scan found I had an AVM. I suffer excruciating pains on the left side of my head that lasted 4 to 5 days for years now. Last night I was having one the headaches and I used peppermint oil to smell and ice the area. Today a I am experiencing a painful lump on the left side of the head above my ear. What should I do?
Make sure you skin in the area is not red or swollen. If there is no swelling or redness then the lump may be just a strained muscle and rarely a lymphnode. In any case it is recommended to observe the lump for a week and meanwhile use some antiinflammatiories (ibuprofen 6000 mg every 8 hours after some food) combined with paracetamol 500 mg every 8 hours and cold compresses (some patients feel better with warm compresses, you can try to find which brings relief to you).
If no improvement in a 4-5 days or any worsening (the tender area spreads or there is redness and swelling), or any new symptoms, please see your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
