What Causes Severe Pain, Swelling In Finger Joints And Fever?

I have sever pain in the joint of my finger. It is swollen and has fever. There is a white spot in the middle of the swollen area. I did not injure it. I have had gout flare ups but nothing like this before. I am taking arthritis pain medication for the pain but it hasn t helped. Does this sound like a gout attack and what can I do for the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a gout attack.

I suggest using Allopurinol.

I also suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
