What Causes Severe Pain Under The Jaws After Tooth Extraction?

I had 2 jaw teeth removed 2/8/17. The last few weeks I have had major pain under the jaw. The dentist said it is not tooth related, but sounds like it could be nerve related, my ear on the same side hurts as well. Could peppermint oil help ? I am so tired of hurting, sometimes to the point of crying.

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

If all your teeth on the side of pain under the jaw are healthy then pain is probably not related to your teeth..
But many a times inter-dental decay can be accidentally left undetected in clinical examination as the wall of teeth that are in contact with each other is not visible to naked eye..
So for further confirmation that it is not tooth related get a Panoromic x ray of your teeth done..
If the teeth are not involved then it can be probably related to Trigeminal nerve causing Neuralgia..
In that case you need to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and if Nerve related pain is the cause then you will be given neurotic pain relievers like Carbamazipine, Gabapantin etc..
For now you can take narcotic painkillers like Tramadol to relieve pain..
I do not think that peppermint oil will be able to provide relief from such a severe pain and you need proper medical management for the same..

Hope you get better soon..

Regards..
