What Causes Severe Pain Weeks After Wisdom Teeth Removal?

I had my bottom 2 wisdom teeth removed exactly two weeks ago by an oral surgeon. Was in extreme pain on my left side for over a week. Was able to see my dentist on Monday and he treated me for dry socket, which immediately took the pain away and he advised I stop using the syringe. Yesterday the pain started to return and my mouth felt really dry in the left side. I had my post operation follow up today with the oral surgeon who said I did not have dry socket and told me to keep using the syringe. My pain level has increased from yesterday after using the syringe twice today. I have taken my prescription ibuprofen for the pain. So I don t know what to do or why I m still feeling this much pain after two weeks

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query. Understanding your concern. As per your query persistent pain two weeks after wisdom teeth removal is because of left over infection in extraction area. Pain at the site of extraction is normal as wisdom tooth extraction is surgically done by bone cutting and stitches. Chances of formation of dry socket is very high. Take Tramadol for pain removal. Visit dentist once and get eugenol dressings done. Take combination of Ibuprofen and Diclofenac. Maintain oral hygiene by brushing and flossing. Get IOPA of that area done and start treatment as per that. Do warm saline and betadine gargles.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
