What Causes Severe Pink Eye?

My husband had a severe case of Pink Eye last summer that lasted over 4 weeks. He is still having his left eye water and it is more sever at times. I feel this is also an allergy issue mixed in. The pollen count here in north florida is extremely high and I am hoping it is just that. Can you tell me if the conjunctivitis can linger and cause this issue?

it is viral infection and contagious. maintain hygiene bath room should not be shared and sanitation other wise it is self limiting. avoid contact with others and linen used to clean the eye should not be shared by others when go out put on dark glass. others should not share your linen like bed sheet and pillow.it should not linger unless there is secondery infection.
