What Causes Severe Recurrent Headache After Undergoing Abdominal Surgery?

I AM A 64yr OLA RETIRED PROGRAMER I AM RECOVERING FROM MAJOR ABDOMINAL SURGERY AND DOING WELL. I HAVE HAD A VERY SEVERE HEADACHE FOR GOING ON 5 DAYS NOW. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING THAT I KNOW TO DO. FROM SUDAPHED TO IMITREX. TO ASPRIN. NOTHING REALLY HELPS I GO TO SLEEP WITH THIS HEADACHE AND WAKE UP WITH IT. SOMETIMES IT GETS LESS SEVERE BUT ITS ALWAYS THERE. THEN WHEN IT COMES BACK ITS LIKE A SLEDGE HAMMER, THERE IS LIKE A FLASH OF VERY VERY GRIGHT LIGHT BEHIND MY RIGHT EYE, AND I USUALLY CAN T SEE OUT OF THAT EYE FOR A FEW SECONDS. AFTER THAT THE PAIN SETTLES JUST IN FRONT OF MY RIGHT EAR.FOR THE FIRST TIME I REALLY DON T KNOW WHAT TO DO AND I AM WORRIED THAT IT MIGHT BE MORE THAN JUST A HEADACHE. PLEASE HELP : DR LARRY W JACOBY

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, of you have been given spinal anesthesia for surgery then such headache is very likely and if it not then it could be tension headache, migraine, cluster headache and for that you can try some medicine like "Carbamazepine with Acetaminophen" but it is advisable to get done the CT head, prior to start the drug and have neurological opinion hope this information helps
