What Causes Severe Redness And Pain In Throat?

I had a sore throat for a few days now. Well I took a flashlight said AHHH AND looked AND there on my right tonsil is what seemed to be a fang. I had my boyfriend look and he instantly recognized it as a piece if toothpick. I hated it but allowed him to pull the splinter out with large tweezers. Thing is my throat is redder and more painful now then before and I can't help but worry its infected or worse yet more toothpick! What should I do?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the fang like thing on the tonsil seems to be a tonsil stone that can occur due to calcification of debris and food particles over the tonsil crypts..
They are a common cause for throat and tonsil inflammation..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
You can be advised to take a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil or motrin, do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations..
You can also suck throat lozenges and chew Vitamin C pellet daily..
Drink plenty of warm water.
Avoid spicy food..
You can also gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water to reduce formation of stones in future..
Always gargle after meals and limit intake of dairy..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
