What Causes Severe Runny Nose And Sticky Green Nasal Mucus?

Hi,
I had a runny nose last week, and then it turned into very sticky green snot coming from my nose. The last few days my nose has been fine, but today I was blowing my nose and as I was pulling snot from my nose I got a shooting pain in one of my teeth on the back top left side. Once I pulled in snot out it didn't hurt. Is this normal to experience ?

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that runny nose along with green sticky snot and pain in teeth while pulling out snot is most probably due to infection in the sinuses leading to Sinusitis and as the sinuses drains through nostrils, therefore fluid/pus accumulation in sinuses can drain through nose.

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room. You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline. Avoid spicy and chilled foods. Do warm compresses around nostrils.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
