Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe shoulder and neck pain. sometimes, I can sleep all night. I have to massage or keep rubbing my shoulder to release the pain and numbness. My tall bone has been paining me for months now. it is worse when I sit for a longer time. Thank you
I can understand your concern. Though there are number of reasons that can cause pain in shoulder and neck, the most common cause is degenerative bone disease or osteoarthritis of the spine in the neck and/or buttock region for the pain in the tail bone. Numbness can also be a part of it due to compression of the spinal nerves.
If that is the case, massage sessions will give you only temporary relief. I would advise you to visit an orthopedic surgeon and go for x-ray of the spine. You should also go for blood tests to determine Vitamin D level in your blood as deficiency of vitamin D can also cause muscle and bone pain along with numbness.
Based on the test results, diagnosis can be confirmed followed by appropriate treatment.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for trusting HCM. Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
