What Causes Severe Shoulder Pain Radiating To Finger?

My mother is facing severe pain since the last two months in her left shoulder which has progressed to her fingers. She has tried several treatments including diathermy and steroid injection but there is no relief so far. She has a history of cervical problem and spondylitis. Please advise.
