What Causes Severe Sinus Pressure, Migraine And Excruciating Pain In My Throat?

For over a year now I have had problems swallowing, from food to pills to basically anything I try to ingest. It feels as if it goes down the wrong canal and get stuck or lodged in my sinus cavity. Recently I swallowed two capsules of a prescribed medication and for a week now I get the sensation that they are definitely stuck. Last night I started experiencing severe sinus pressure, migraine, and excruciating pain in my throat or sinus cavity. It feels like the capsules are trying to force their way out and in the process are trying to poke through the tissue surrounding them. Its throbbing pain, I debated on going to the ER but when I tried to explain it to my family they thought I was being dramatic or crazy.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding sinus pressure, any thing ingested feels to be struck in your sinuses and trying to get their way out.

It is unlikely or impossible that ingested thing to go to sinuses, but as you have told about your illness it appears as most likely you are having upper respiratory tract infection involving nose and paranasal sinuses, throat and simultaneously there is GERD also.

For confirmation of diagnosis and treatment you should do-

1- X-Ray paranasal sinuses.

2- Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

3- Upper G.I. Endoscopy.

With the help of above investigation and their co-relation with findings of physical examination one may pinpoint the diagnosis that may be accordingly manage.

Regards.
