What Causes Severe Soreness In The Ear?

Hi, my son is 15. A couple of weeks ago, he was complaining about a sore ear. Kind of like there was a pimple, or something that was irritating it. It went away. Now it s back, and it s really bothering him. When I look into his ear, his ear canal is very swollen when compared to his other ear. It hurts, itches, and feels comfort when touched with a cotton swab. But, then turns to pain. I ve tried tylenol, a decongestant, and benadryl. He s growing more uncomfortable. Will call his doctor in the morning, but am trying to determine if this is an ear infection or maybe swimmer s ear?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of severe soreness in the ear which is due to ear infection and due to presence of blister in ear canal.

Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you to visit Otolaryngologist once and get it evaluated using otoscope and start treatment after proper prescription. You should avoid sleeping on this side. You should put Otogesic ear drops/ prescribed ear drops 2-3 times a day. You should take proper rest. You should take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin along with Ibuprofen.Try to avoid excessive use of mobile and try to avoid pricking it with any sharp object and maintain hygiene of ear canal.
