What Causes Severe Stabbing Pain And Burning In The Back?

I am having severe stabbing and burning pain throughout the upper left area of my back. It radiates down to my L arm. Also, my left upper arm, in addition to burning, is itching terribly. The pain is also over to spine area and up into the base of my skull. Pain meds are not helping and anti-inflammatory meds are not helping either. Any ideas?
