Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi - My 15 year old daughter woke up and said she had pains in her stomach all night and couldn t sleep. She s been throwing up off and on - with dry heaves. Says the pain is below her sternum, in the middle of her stomach. Sometimes its a grabbing twisting feeling and other times it s a sharper pain.
She could be having a gastrointestinal infection. These are most often caused by a virus and are treated symptomatically. However, I would want to be sure it's not appendicitis. Typically that pain is in the right lower abdomen, but in early stages it can be more diffuse and in the middle of the stomach. If the pain is quite severe, and especially if she is having fevers, she should be checked at the ER for appendicitis. Hope this helps.
