What Causes Severe Stomachache And Pain On Sides Of The Rib Cage?

My father spits up mucous all during the day..thick mucous as one would expect with pneumonia, except this is from his stomach. He is 92, had a back injury that precipitated the issues with his stomach. He has severe stomach pain constantly; one physician in ER told him nerves were injured in his back and are causing the stomach issues--a radiating pain from one side of his rib cage to the middle of his stomach. (Earlier, the pain radiated across his abdomen and back, also resulting in severe pain.) He isn t buying the back nerves story and is most anxious to resolve the issue. Thank you for your assistance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Pain over one side of the rib cage can be most likely a flare-up of previous viral infection and current herpes zoster must be considered on a prime basis.

Kindly get him examined with an expert dermatologist for this issue and let him be cured at earliest without much agony of suffering.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
