General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the swelling and pain in the knee indicate various issues possible as:
- Arthritis
- Rheumatoid conditions
- Trauma associated
- Chronic inflammation from joint space narrowing
- Tendon conditions at patellar insertion or other bone tips as medial tibial tuberosity in athletics

An MRI of the knee joint is must to get evaluated for all details of any abnormal anatomy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
