What Causes Severe Throat Pain And Coughing Up Green Mucus?
I am a 25 year old female. I am about 5'7" and 167lbs. I am generally very healthy and hardly ever get sick. I woke up yesterday morning with some sinus drainage and a slight sore throat. Throughout the day yesterday my throat started hurting more, I started losing my voice, and I was coughing up a thick green mucus. I haven't had a fever, but this morning my throat hurts so bad it makes my ears hurt when I swallow and I am still coughing up thick green mucus. I don't even feel bad other than the symptoms listed above. What could this be?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query you have symptoms of severe throat pain and coughing up green mucus which seems to be due to chronic upper respiratory tract infection.
Need not to worry, I would suggest you to
- Avoid oily and sharp food and drink plenty of fluids.
- Do warm saline gargles three times a day.
- Take proper course of antibiotics (Azithromycin) along with anti-inflammatory medications.
- Apply mist humidifiers in room and avoid cold carbonated beverages.
You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get chest X-ray done along with blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
