What Causes Severe Trembling Of Hands?

My hands tremble irregularly. When I am carrying a plate of food or cup of coffee, sometimes they just shake out of the blue (and I nearly make a mess with the food/drink). I can sometimes feel that its going to happen and therefore don't try and carry anything? Could this be due to a lack of Vitamins?
