What Causes Severe Upper Abdominal Pain, Chest Pain And Bloating?

I have severe upper abdominal pain, chest pain, and painful gas/bloating. The pain was so terrible that I went to ER this morning. The pain was intense throughout my whole abdominal area. The pain was a squeezing-spasm type pain. The hospital ran blood test(pancreas, heart enzyme, etc), chest x-ray, EKG, & gave me an IG cocktail plus Prevacid(which did not help). All test came back fine. I had a gallbladder hida scan & ultra sound in August (due to upper abdominal pain) & it was fine. I saw my GI doctor last week about the pain & gas. She put me on great Probiotic and told me to see my OBGYN to get my ovaries checked. Well, I am home from the hospital and all I have is prescription for Prevacid (which is otc now). The ER doctor said the pain could be GERD so I need to take Prevacid twice a day. But that doesn t explain the painful gas & bloating. I still have gripping/squeezing abdominal pain & gas, but no diarrhea or constipation. What is causing my pain?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of severe upper abdominal pain, chest pain and bloating which is most probably due to all of the changes taking place in your body such as electrolyte imbalance and due to underlying medical condition. It can also occur due to UTI , gastritis and sometimes due to condition like angina. I would suggest you to get up slowly and do not lie down right after eating , eat small meals or snacks often ,try not to skip meals. You should avoid intake of outside food. You should eat cold food instead of hot, as it may not smell as strongly , sniffing lemons or ginger can sometimes help an upset stomach. If condition doesn't get better in 2-3 days the consult gynecologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug along with antibiotics .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
