What Causes Severe Weight Loss After Suffering From Stomach Flu?

my 15 year old grand daughter had a stomac virus about 1 month ago, she lost about 10 lbs, ive noticed she has gotten much thinner, she only drinks water. she doesn t c/o of any pain or anything else. just worried about her. she is 5 9 and now weighs 140.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of severe weight loss after suffering from stomach flu. Need not to worry. Avoid intake of outside food. I would suggest you to consult general practitioner/ pediatrician for proper examination. Doctor will take history and order blood test. Doctor may prescribe antiviral drug like acyclovir for at least 5 days along with anti inflammatory and antipyretic medications. You should avoid intake of hot, sharp and spicy food. You should take oral rehydrating solution as well. For now do proper rest because rest is important in case of viral infection and apply warm compresses on body. You should do tepid sponging if fever levels are high.
