What Causes Shallow Breathing After Taking Amoxicillin For Pneumonia?

My 10 year old niece has had pneumonia for a week and has been on Amoxicillin. Tonight she is breathing more shallow and respirations are 42/min. She is currently sleeping but should she go to the ED or should she be ok overnight and her parents call her pediatrician in the AM?

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in HCM

I would suggest you to take her to the ED if she is not getting better with meds. She would require nebulization and oxygen therapy for better relief and constant monitoring of her oxygen saturation.

Thank you
