What Causes Sharp Chest Pain While Breathing Deep?

My 94 year old father has been experiencing sharp pains in chest area when taking deep breaths. Started 4 days ago. He lives alone and does great but I am going to visit and would like enough info to determine if we should go to emergency or not today.

Sharp chest pain while breathing at the age of 94 can be due to underlying pleuritis, pericarditis or other disorders. Kindly consider to present him to nearest ER for best evaluation with clinical perspectives and treat accordingly.
