What Causes Sharp Pain In Gums When Putting Retainers?
Hello I just got my retainers on Monday and I have them in religiously after I had my braces taken out, my bottom retainer hurts my gums and when I take it off it looks like it leaves a dent in my gums, and whenever I out thwm on I get this sharp pain on onw of my teeth, am I putting them in wrong?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per the explanation you are not wearing the retainers wrong but either the wire that is attached to the retainer plate is impinging over the gums as there is dent formation over the gums and the other thing that can happen is that the acrylic plate is having over extensions over the gums which is putting pressure over the teeth causing pain..
You need not to worry and just go back to your Orthodontist and get the retainer and your oral conditions evaluated so that he can adjust the retainer as per your convenience and make it easy to wear along with maintaining its efficacy..
You can apply numbing gel over the sore areas of gums to prevent discomfort..
Hope this information helps..
