What Causes Sharp Pain In Left Big Toe Of A Diabetes Patient?

The last couple evenings when i m sitting in a lounge chair, i ve suddenly had sharp pains in my left big toe and the toe beside it. I don t have diabetes. I had pains like this in the past once or twice but not for a couple years. Wondering why it is doing it now. I had my ankles crossed the first time it happened and it stopped when i uncrossed them.
