What Causes Sharp Pain In Lower Back And Abdomen While On AZO For UTI?

About two weeks ago I had what I thought was a UTI, I get them about 1 every 4 months or so. I started to drink a lot more water, and sugar free cranberry juice. I also took AZO to help with the pain. It got better for a couple days, and then I started having pains all over again. This time it s in my lower back and in my Lower abdomen. I began to have sharp pains and it hurts when I sneeze/cough/hiccup. I was still continuing to drink the cranberry juice/water and the AZO and it went away pretty much. My vagina still hurt but it was more of an ache/soreness. But now it has been two weeks today that I have had this problem. Now it really hurts to pee, I have a greenish mucus discharge, with red blood in it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you seem to be suffering from urinary tract infection. Azo is an urinary analgesic commonly used to relieve the pain/burning associated with a urinary tract infection. It does not kill the bacteria responsible for urine infection.

I advise you to consult your doctor for further evaluation which may include tests such as urine analysis and/or urine for culture and sensitivity to determine the causative bacteria so that an appropriate course of suitable antibiotics would be given.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
