What Causes Sharp Pain In Middle Of Chest After Diagnosed With A-fib?

Hi I am a 35 year old female. I am 5'6 and 227lbs. I have high blood pressure and diabetes both under control. I was recently diagnosed with Afib. Today I had a few palpitations but just bothersome. I twice have gotten a sharp pain in the middle of my chest. It just came and gone. Do I need to go to ER?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Atrial fibrillation is a condition where the heart rate fluctuates and is very rapid.
In the query, you have not mentioned any medicine that you are taking. But I am assuming that you are taking some medicine.

In your condition, there are a couple of possibilities that may cause palpitations and chest pain

1. may be the atrial fibrillation is not fully controlled. so if the heart rate fluctuates momentarily or steps up, there is a possibility of you feeling a palpitation, only occasionally related to chest pain

2. if you are developing low sugars, there is again a possibility of developing palpitations. while chest pain is not frequent, a possibility is there that it may be due to the same

3. a chest pain should always be evaluated for serious cardiac conditions. So i would suggest definitely get an ECG/EKG

Visit a hospital. I cannot examine you. And as I said, there are multiple causes for the palpitations. So you might want to get evaluated properly

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
