What Causes Sharp Pain In Sternum Radiating To Back?

My husband is experiencing sharp pain in his sternum area shooting straight back to his spine. Hurts when he breathes, or lays flat. Pain in his left shoulder and now in his left jaw. Has had a fever for a few days, very fatiqued, pale looking. Had burning pain and digestive difficulties in his abdomen for the last three days. He has had this issue on and off for 5 years, except his belly would swell and get hard. He has been on a liquid diet for 6 months thinking he had an intestinal blockage. Concerned about these new sypmtoms. He has been getting more tired ove the last month, and his muscles feel very atrophied and wasted. he thinks he is cleaning out blockage, I think he needs to see a doctor

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the symptoms you have described, your husband needs to seek medical attention as soon as possible. The sharp pain in his sternum area that is radiating to his back, along with pain in his left shoulder and jaw, could be a sign of a heart attack or other serious cardiac issue.

Additionally, his fever, fatigue, and pale appearance may indicate an infection or other underlying medical condition that requires prompt attention. The digestive difficulties he has been experiencing for the past three days may also be related to his other symptoms. He needs to see a doctor for a full evaluation and proper diagnosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
