What Causes Sharp Pain In The Back And The Arm While Coughing?

I have a hacking cough, very phlemy. I had severe chills last night. teeth chattering, fetal position for at least 20 minutes. today while coughing I felt a sharp shooting pain in my back and then my arms started tingling. I have been getting dizzy this past week but I thought it was just the heat.

Hello,

Back pain while coughing is mostly due to a muscle that may have gone in spasm or due to disc prolapse if a strong movement of your upper back happened while coughing.
If a disc moves laterally, it may pinch the nerve coming out in that area and cause tingling.

As for the cough, if you have fever and chills that are lasting for more than 3-4 days or you are not better with the cough in a total of 5-6 days, it is best to have a check with your doctor to rule out pneumonia (lung infection).

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
