What Causes Sharp Pain In The Chest And Shortness Of Breath?

Recently been having sharp but very brief twinges in my chest, sometimes but not always accompanied by shortness of breath. This only seems to happen late at night, like after 10 pm, and it never occurs with exercise or during the day. I am a 30 year old woman. Don t drink or smoke. Don t have high bold pressure or diabetes. Not sure about cholesterol. Average weight to 10 pounds over.

Hello Dear. At your age the most common cause for chest pain may be gastritis. But still we need to rule out heart conditions like anginal pain also.

Firstly i will tell you few tips which you can follow to prevent gastritis. They are

1. Do not eat spicy food
2. Take medications which are available over the counter- omeprazole or pantaprazole or ranitidine. Or you can also take mucaine gel or gelusil
3. Take little food at frequent intervals. Breakfast around 8am, small snack at 11am, lunch at 1pm, small snack at 4pm and dinner at 8pm
4. Drink plenty of water
5. Do not take much of stress. Stress aggravates gastritis
6. Do regular exercise. Atleast half an hour per day
7. Learn meditation techniques

If the pain is continuing despite of all these things you can consult a physician who will take ECG and advise for treadmill test (TMT) if indicated.
