What Causes Sharp Pain In The Knee And Swelling

my right knee being the worst will get red and swollen,also get's hot like a fever is in it. can't lift my weight with it, most of the time when i do lift with it i get a sharp pain in the back of my knee. i can be standing up and turn a lil and it will hurt and when im caring some thing my knee will give out. thank you
