General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain that starts in the lower-middle of the buttock and radiates downward is called sciatica.

The sciatic nerve, which is a long thick nerve, comes out through the muscle there (at the sciatic notch) and runs down the leg.

I advise that you see your doctor or a physical therapist for evaluation and treatment of this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh, General & Family Physician
