Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband has a sudden onset, very sharp pain in his lower back. It goes away when he lies down or sits in a soft chair. He has recently had variable numbness and tingling in his feet, especially his right foot, but has not had back pain until now (except overdoing yard work). I gave him ibuprofin and thought I would try to relax what seems like a contracted muscle with a heating pad. Is heat the right approach?

What Causes Sharp Pain In The Lower Back?
Hello, It could be due to spine related causes like disc prolapse. As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedician and plan for an MRI scan. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
