What Causes Sharp Pain In The Neck Along With Fever?
my son is 16 yrs old, he was doing some squats at school to warm up for extra curricular activity. after that, he went to sit down at a desk and all of a sudden he felt this sharp pain that radiated from his neck. to be more specific on the area... it looks like its behind his ear, along side the neck and down to his trapezes. it hurts to move and he is in pain. we went a dr already, but she said it might a muscle spasm. but if he gets a fever, to bring back to the hospital. what would be the cause for fever? she also prescribed ibruprofen and told him to apply heat.
The doctor was likely thinking about meningitis, which is a dangerous infection affecting the covering of the brain and spinal cord, which typically has symptoms of fever and neck pain/stiffness. However, in your son's case, this sounds pretty clear to be from muscle spasm, and I wouldn't be concerned; your doctor was likely just being very careful to give you precautions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
