What Causes Sharp Pain In The Pelvis And Hips?

Hello, I am experiencing random sharp pain in my right inner hip/pelvic region. It is not constant but seems to happen if I pivot too rapidly or step crookedly. I am 6 2 tall, 175lbs. And 53 yrs.old. I am active and practice yoga. This occurs periodically thru the year. I ice it and just walk it off usually. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanksfor the query. I understand your concern.
The typical activity causing sharp painin deep hip bone &buttocks seems to be due to Pyriformis muscle contraction leafing to pressure on sciatic nerve while it passes through sciaticnotch of pelvis.
Confirmation would be after MRI of pelvis-hip bone.
Consultation of an orthopedic surgeon is needed for specific management. (Pain medicines/physiotherapy-stretching exercises/steroids in some cases /surgery in few cases)
Thanks.
